As you experience the joy of a little life growing within you, there are a number of changes that your body goes through. A majority of these body changes are a result of hormonal changes that are going on. These additional hormones that work in your body at the time of pregnancy might bring about an alteration in the usual hair cycles. This may cause your hair to become more bouncy and thicker. While you may be pleased to hear this, let me tell you that everybody is not so lucky. Your hair may also become curly, dry or frizzy. The worst thing is that some pregnant women experience excessive hair fall.
However, by maintaining a good diet and caring for the hair properly, your hair can regain its original condition within half a year of childbirth. Considering the health of your skin and hair as well as your general well being, taking proper care of your health is extremely crucial during the months of pregnancy.
Here’s how you can have manageable hair:
A wonderful way to maintain your hair when you are pregnant is going for a comfortable hair massage. While having the massage, you can also relax.
Apply oil to your hair at least thrice a week. If you go for natural hair oils, it nourishes your hair to a great extent. I would advise you to choose oils that contain castor, jojoba, almond, coconut, olive, and such other healthy things. Warm the oil a bit and massage through hair and scalp.
Massaging protects against hair fall by strengthening the roots. For additional benefits, you can even wrap your head with a warm towel.
Applying shampoo and conditioning
For a minimum of one or two times a week, apply shampoo. Make sure that the shampoo is mild; the best thing is to go for an herbal shampoo. Each time you have hair wash, make sure to use a conditioner. Take special care of the hair tips because this will enable you to stay away from dry or split ends.
As your pregnancy progresses, you will find it increasingly difficult to wash your hair. So, for this, you ask for assistance from your partner.
Staying away from hair coloring
During pregnancy, the best thing is to keep away from hair color. Although no research has revealed anything against coloring during pregnancy, it is better to be safe. When I was pregnant my doctor had advised me not to go for hair coloring because it can lead to certain infections or allergies. Why go for such complications when you are pregnant?
Do not comb your hair when it is wet. You can use a hair dryer set at medium or simply allow your hair to get dried naturally. When the hair is dry, make use a comb with wide teeth. This will prevent hair fall.
Going for regular hair trims
As I have already told you, under the effect of hormones, different changes occur within your hair. This leads to some alterations in the thickness and texture. If you go for regular hair trimming, this will help you avoid rough ends or split ends. Through hair trim, you can even adorn yourself in a new style which will go a long way in lifting your mood.
Getting to know your hair type
For dealing with messy hair caused by hormonal changes in the body, first it is vital to know your hair type. Opt for products that are particularly suited for your hair type. In this way you can nourish your hair and prevent damage.
Eating a balanced diet
It goes without saying that when you are pregnant, whatever you consume should strengthen your body and simultaneously nurture your baby. Even for hair nourishment, you need to have a balanced diet. So, make sure that your daily diet consists of meats, vegetables, fruits, milk, dry fruits, grains, lentils, fish and other such healthy ingredients. Again, I suggest that you discuss with your doctor whether certain foods should be avoided during pregnancy.
Hair fall can be a result of stress. Hormone alterations and mood swings can have a detrimental effect on your hair. Therefore take some time to indulge in relaxing activities like yoga, meditation, music.
